Conflict is Rising: Excerpt from Part One of The Blood Trials
Ebony jolted to a sitting position to the sound of the soft breeze whistling through the cracked glass of the lantern room windows. Her body was damp with moisture. She had no idea how much time had passed since she saw the boat. She hadn’t intended on staying much longer, no more than a few minutes. But she had fallen asleep. It was still dark; the sun had not yet started to rise. But it had to be close to morning.
As she focused in on her quarters, she could sense her father was there. “Shit,” she whispered. She focused on the hallway outside her door instead and sensed no one, confirming it was safe to transport. No one knew she could transport herself and she intended to keep it that way.
When she opened to the door to her quarters, she found her father pacing in front of the window. The look in his eyes shot right through her. “Where in the hell of have you’ve been, Ebony?” demanded Dr. Hunter.
